Fabric Row

Today I spent the morning and early afternoon on Philadelphia's "Fabric Row". This is one of my favorite destinations in Philly.  It's local fabric heaven! I could really spend days rummaging through roll after roll in all the little fabric stores on 4th street between Monroe and Catherine streets. If you've never been, here's the perfect excuse for a project. You can find just about anything you need here. It's pure awesomeness!

I was on a specific mission to get custom window treatments made for a client. After a few hours, and a half-time rest for a cappuccino, the mission was accomplished. Then it was only a couple blocks walk to the Mecca for cheesesteaks. Jim's on 4th & South.

Lunch was so goooood!

After lunch, and after some looks in some cool South Street art shops, It was off to Chinatown for some tea cups, and Gong Fu Cha utensils. Mission accomplished there too. It was a very fun day!

Tonight it's Gong Fu Cha with some really great Oolong tea I still have from China. Have an awesome evening everyone...

Shiner

When you walk through the High Point Market, you always see so many wonderful things for the home. The creativity and innovation go on hallway after hallway, floor after floor. One of the main convergence points is the first floor of the IHFC building at the Commerce Street entrance.

Like so many other industry peeps, I passed through here many times during the show. Usually in a hurry to get to a far hallway on some upper floor. But, every time I flew by, a tiny showroom with really cool lighting fixtures hanging above really cool and interesting wooden furniture pieces kept catching my eye. The name said "Shiner," and I made repeated mental notes to get back there and have a look...

Finally, towards the end of the show I was meeting a good friend of mine named Moon Ho at the little cafe in that same hallway. Moon is an extraordinarily talented person. She spent many years buying and merchandising for Bloomingdale's in Manhattan. She's a very cool person, and a furniture super star!

Ok, now that's it's too late for this to be a short story, let me get into this company called Shiner. I finally went in and met Joe Manus, the owner and visionary behind this very cool company. The deal is...Joe is scouring the planet for waste materials from other manufacturers, and turning them into Eco-Friendly works of Home Art.

Of all the wonderful things I saw at the show. Shiner was one of the most memorable company's for sure. Feast your eyes on these...

Cardboard and wood
Styrofoam and wood

I highly recommend you check this company out. Joe Manus is onto something that's really great. Vision, talent, and environmental conciseness coming together to make awesome pieces of furniture and lighting. Click here to visit his website.

High Point Highlights...

Chandelier by CYAN Design

Going to High Point is always so great. It remains the center of the furniture universe in this country. I always love seeing all the creativity, the passion, the visions, and all the serious hard work that comes together here to be revealed to the world.

There's always so much to see, and so much ground to cover.
It's impossible to photograph it all, but I did my best, and here's some highlights...

The Global Views showroom was amazing! These peeps are on top of what's hot!

The colors were amazing, and so right on!

Here's some new Candice Olson pieces at Norwalk Furniture

HB2's Dixon Bartlett, design collaborator with Candice Olson for Norwalk,
sitting on Candice's new sofa and 90 degree wrap around ottoman.

A visit to the Phillips Collection showroom is always a must! Take a look at these treasures...

Gorgeous! These are available in HUGE size too.

So beautiful!

Or ice with beverages ;-)

Phillips Collection always has some really fun pieces. Love it!

These micro patchwork leather chairs...Wow!

Everywhere at Phillips, there is fine art that doubles as furniture.

Flipping now to Ultra Mod...

Imagine chilling and watching a movie on this
Gruppo Tomasella piece, and then imagine the house around it!

The food was always a wonderful end to each long day! This raspberry chocolate mouse cake was the hands down winner!

Stay tuned for more from High Point coming soon!

Inspiration everywhere!

My good friend Angelo Surmelis talking with Jason Phillips from the Phillips Collection.

The High Point Furniture Market was filled with so much wonderful inspiration! I took some good photos, and I will post them all as soon as I get a little more time. I'm leaving High Point today, and I still have a lot to do. I'll be back to blogging very soon!
